A man who police shot on a crowded Brooklyn subway platform Sunday — after, the NYPD says, he skipped a fare and threatened officers with a knife — remains in a hospital bed and unable to walk, his attorney said Friday.

Protesters jumped the subway turnstiles in Union Square to bring attention to what they say was a reckless reaction by the NYPD for shooting a man over doing the same thing.

The New York City Police Department is responding to shots fired at an L train subway station in Brownsville, Brooklyn.

Police officials shared more details about the Brownsville, Brooklyn subway station shooting during a Wednesday evening news conference. They said the violence, captured on body-worn cameras and 15 surveillance cameras at the station and on the trains, began when a man accused of fare evasion later charged at police with a knife.

We are not perfect,” said John Chell, the Police Department’s chief of patrol, as protesters gathered in Union Square.
