Quarterback John Mateer rushed for 197 yards and one touchdown, Wayshawn Parker burst 43 yards for a TD as part of a 14-point blitz in 16 seconds in the second quarter, and Washington State raced past Texas Tech 37-16.

Behren Morton was erratic and unable to throw much beyond the line of scrimmage. Head coach Joey McGuire's desire for the Red Raiders to perform better on the road was unfulfilled, Texas Tech lost a number of key players to injury throughout the game and lost star running back Tahj Brooks before kickoff.

The Cougars grounded an explosive Red Raiders offense in a 37-16 victory. Texas Tech had scored 52 points in its opener.

In a game that was expected to be dictated by both offenses, the Washington State Cougar defense controlled the pace, forcing four Texas Tech Red Raider turnovers and converting two of which into offensive touchdowns for a 37-16 victory.

On a weekend where one of the pioneers of the Air Raid offense was honored at Washington State, it was ironically the rushing game and an aggressive defense that secured a Cougar victory. WSU downed Texas Tech 37-16 one day after Mike Leach was officially inducted into the WSU Athletics Hall of Fame.
