Former Gopher Pitlick hoping for big final season at Minnesota State
The Mavericks lose their top scorers from last season in Sam Morton (24-10—34) and Lucas Sowder (13-14—27). Adding Pitlick was an easy choice for Strand, as the Mavericks had a spot and he could be a key piece in replacing that production.
Former Gopher Rhett Pitlick will play hockey for Minnesota State Mankato this season
A fifth-round selection of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2019 NHL draft, Pitlick parted ways with the Gophers after the 2023-24 season. He did not sign with Montreal and became a free agent when his rights expired this summer. Without a contract with an NHL organization, Pitlick opted for one final collegiate season with Minnesota State.

The Minnesota State men’s hockey team is making a splash ahead of the upcoming season after announcing senior Rhett Pitlick is joining the program. Pitlick spent his last three seasons playing for the Minnesota Gophers and put up 36 points for Minnesota last year on 19 goals and 17 assists to lead the team.
